First Nations culture and community.
More information about these objectives and funding eligibility will be made available when fund applications are opened.
Summerfield Battery Community Benefit Committee Terms of Reference
Please read this section before completing the below Nomination and Declaration form.
The Summerfield Battery Community Benefit Committee will:
be made up of a minimum of four community representatives
not include more than one representative from any institution or organisation (i.e. a local sporting club or Council). Where there are multiple applicants from the same organisation (i.e., local council), and the applicants have other ties to the community, the project team will undertake base-by-case assessments
be supported by a member of the Summerfield Battery project team, who will provide administrative support and facilitation.
The project representative will provide an administrative function within the CBC. This will involve:
organisation of Committee meetings/discussions and advising on timeframes for review of applications
responding to questions from applicants and/or interested parties
liaising with applicants where more information is requested, or to provide feedback to assist applicants in applying in future rounds
advertising and promotion of funding rounds and other CBFP initiatives
providing CBC recommendations to the Project Steering Committee, and any other liaison required between the CBC and the project team.
The project representative may assist with assessing the eligibility of applicants against the agreed criteria, but will not actively provide opinions or vote on which eligible applications should be funded.
The CBC and its members are expected to:
commit the required time to attend scheduled meetings and review information and applications as required. We expect this will involve about 12 hours per round of funding
make reasonable attempts to reach consensus on the projects/initiatives that should be funded in any given round. If this is not possible, the Summerfield Project Steering Committee will make an ultimate decision, with consideration to feedback provided by the Advisory Committee. This includes circumstances where an even number of Committee members are split on their vote on an application
fund multiple projects each round (with exception if only a single eligible application is received in a given round)
assist the project team in preparing feedback for any unsuccessful applicants to assist them in future applications.
Advisory Committee positions are voluntary and not formally remunerated, however the project team will acknowledge the commitment of people’s times through provision of gift vouchers or similar. Positions are for the duration of the project’s construction, testing and commissioning phase. We do, however, understand that things might change and Committee members may need to step down from duties. In this event, we request that this be put in writing (with at least two weeks’ notice) so that replacement member/s can be found.
Committee membership, structure and tenure will be revisited at the commencement of the project’s operational phase, expected in early 2027.
Nomination form
I hereby nominate to be a community representative on the Summerfield Battery Community Benefit Committee.
I accept that selection and appointment to the Committee will be subject to the Project team’s discretion and to me being:
a current local resident, worker or landowner potentially impacted by the project or a member of a stakeholder group with an interest in the project area, including an industry, community, environmental or Traditional Owner group
able to demonstrate my involvement in the local community or community activities
knowledgeable about the project and its related issues of concern to the local community
able to represent and communicate the interests of the affected local community
willing to adhere to the Committee’s code of conduct (which will be provided to successful applicants)
not directly employed by the Summerfield Battery project or working as a contractor to the project.
All nominations will be considered in respect of other applicants. Submitting a nomination does not guarantee that the person will be selected as a Committee member. We are looking for Committee members who can demonstrate their involvement in the local community and understanding of local challenges and interests, particularly those aligned with the fund’s objectives listed above.
